Bethlehem Center of Charlotte Education Scholarship Fund

Application Instructions
Fall 2008 Applications are due June 30th

 

PURPOSE: The Bethlehem Center of Charlotte was established in 1990 to provide financial assistance to individuals enrolled in an institution of higher learning regardless of age.  Financial assistance is based on need, academic performance, leadership potential and level of volunteerism at Bethlehem Center and/or in the community where the applicant resides. 

ELIGIBILITY: 

  1. Applicant must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 5.0 scale.

  2. Applicant must show proof of acceptance at an academic, vocational or technical school for post-secondary studies.

  3. Applicant must demonstrate financial need.

  4. Applicant must provide evidence of volunteer activities he/she has performed.

  5. Applicant must have leadership potential as evidenced by school and/or community activities.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE: To be considered for a Bethlehem Center of Charlotte Education Scholarship Fund grant, applicants must: 

  1. Complete an application packet.  The application packet includes:

    1. A completed application form.

    2. An official high school or college transcript and an official high school or college transcript.

    3. Three recommendation forms: one from a teach or other school official and one from an employer, minister or other adult familiar with applicant’s potential.
       

  1. Attend a personal interview with the Bethlehem Center of Charlotte Education Scholarship Fund committee if chosen as a finalist.

AWARDS:  The maximum amount of scholarships will be determined by the Scholarship Committee annually; based on the availability of funds and the number of qualified applicants.  Scholarships will be awarded for on year only (although an applicant may continue to apply for a maximum of 4 years).  All scholarship awards will be paid directly to the recipient’s school.

THANK YOU to the many volunteers and students that participated in the 2008 Bethlehem Center Scholarship Recipient Luncheon hosted by Queens University.  Congratulations to DeVaris Locket who received our First Annual Scholarship Recipient of the Year award.  DeVaris received a check for $500, a free image consultation and free financial planning session.  DeVaris was chosen as recipient of the year for the time he put into helping the children of Bethlehem Center during school and continues to help mentor teens since he has graduated.
