1940 - Founded by United Methodist Women in 1940, the Bethlehem Center of Charlotte is a National Mission Institution operating in a covenant relationship with the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church.  Bethlehem Center of Charlotte started in Charlotte's Brooklyn Community (now called 1st Ward) to address the need for temporary housing and other services for women and children whose income was at or below the poverty level.

1956 - After Charlotte's Urban Renewal, Bethlehem Center's headquarters were relocated to serve the neighborhoods of Southside, Brookhill, and Wilmore where it expanded its services to include a kindergarten, activities for older children and youth, and parental classes

Today - Bethlehem Center of Charlotte continues to provide quality child-enrichment activities for school age children and youth, and strives to develop innovative programs to improve the quality of life for at-risk families.
