History & Foundation

Funded by the United Methodist Women in 1940, the Bethlehem Center started in the Brooklyn community to address the needs of inner city women and children whose income was at or below the poverty level. In 1956 after urban renewal, Bethlehem Center was relocated to serve the neighborhoods of Southside,Brookhill and Wilmore, where we provided one of Charlotte’s first free kindergarten programs, activities for school age children and other quality family enrichment services.

We provide a continuum of services from birth through college graduation to over 800 children, youth and their families.

Our Mission & Vision

Our mission is to provide educational opportunities for low income children and families to improve the quality of their lives. Our vision as a faith-based organization is to partner with our community to educate, transform, and inspire fulfilled lives by embodying the love of Jesus Christ.

Contribute To The Legacy

It is only through the generosity of public/private donors and grantors, that we are able to provide over 80,000 hours of education and 300,000 meals to the children and families we serve.

Our amazing team is what makes our organization so strong. We work for a devine purpose and it shines through our contributions to our community.
